Behavior and Risks
Aedes mosquitos are highly aggressive and are most active during daylight hours, making them especially disruptive for outdoor activities like gardening, relaxing on patios, or spending time in the yard. They breed in very small amounts of standing water, often in containers or objects that collect rainwater. This means even minor water buildup—such as in plant trays, toys, or clogged gutters—can support a growing population.
Homeowners commonly notice frequent bites during the day, especially around shaded areas or near structures. Unlike other species, these mosquitos tend to stay close to where they hatch, which can lead to persistent activity in specific areas of the property.
Because they reproduce quickly and remain localized, infestations can worsen over time if breeding sites are not identified and eliminated. Targeting small water sources and treating areas near the home are key steps in reducing activity and preventing repeat issues.
