Updated Plans Announced for the Cook Museum
Plans for the Cook Museum of Natural Science, announced early in 2014, have significantly expanded to better meet projected attendance levels. Market research estimates 214,000 visitors in the first year alone.
The new museum plan proposes demolishing the existing structure located at 133 4th Ave. NE and constructing a 57,000 sq. ft. multi-level building that will dramatically enhance downtown Decatur’s skyline. Of this space, 5,000 sq. ft. will be dedicated to temporary traveling exhibits.
The café with, glass exterior walls and a patio outdoors, has been enlarged to comfortably seat more than 70 people. In addition, the theater has been enlarged to seat 140 people.
Classroom space has been expanded to two unique rooms: one for younger children interested in birthday parties with hands-on activities and the other for intermediate age groups that gravitate towards lab-based programs.
